Strong wind gusts from the northwest could make kites soar in the sunny skies over Denver Wednesday.

Wind speeds typically reserved for the high country approaching 50 mph are expected along the Front Range, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Steady breezes will be between 27 to 32 mph.

Temperatures will rise to about 55 degrees on Wednesday before heating up to spring-like temperature levels by Friday, the NWS says.

Meantime, mountain dwellers are dealing with the full brunt of winter traveling conditions in the mountains.

“Snow and blowing snow making for tough travel conditions in the mountains early this morning,” the NWS warns.

The highs are expected to reach 67 on Thursday and 72 on Friday at a time of the year when mid 40s is normal.

It could rain on Saturday. There is a 40 percent chance showers after 11 a.m. It will be cooler, with a high near 56 degrees.

On Sunday, there is a slight chance for snow before 11 a.m., the NWS forecasts. The high will be a more seasonal 41 degrees.

The first part of the work week it is expected to be mostly sunny with highs in the low 50s.
