Broomfield indefinitely postpones vote on oil, gas moratorium

Extraction Oil & Gas told Broomfield leaders the company would withdraw its drilling applications if the city postponed the vote or defeated the moratorium

After a nearly five-hour meeting Tuesday, Broomfield City Council voted to indefinitely postpone a vote on an oil and gas moratorium.

Three council members voted against the motion, which was supported by five members. One council member didn’t attend the meeting.

Residents shared varying opinions varying from people vehemently advocating for the moratorium and others asking to postpone or vote against moratorium.

Extraction Oil & Gas Inc. officials told Broomfield officials Monday that the company would withdraw its applications with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to drill in Broomfield, if the city’s moratorium ordinance was postponed indefinitely or turned down at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
