Customers of AT&T Wireless could not make 911 emergency calls Wednesday evening in Denver, Lakewood and other Colorado cities as a sporadic outage affected the company’s subscribers across the nation.
Denver police put out an “emergency alert” on Twitter about 7 p.m., notifying the public about the 911 outage and advising people to send 911 texts or call an alternate number. Several minutes after Denver’s notification, Lakewood police also used Twitter to notify people of the same issue there. Service in Douglas County and Eagle County also was down.
The situation was corrected at about 8:15 p.m., police and AT&T said.
Customers in Aurora were not affected.
Elsewhere, AT&T mobile users in western Massachusetts were unable to dial direct, according to the Chicopee Police Department.
The Associated Press reported that a company spokesman could not provide more details on how many states were affected.
