A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with two 2015 sexual assault cases near downtown Colorado Springs after police say forensic evidence linked him to the crimes through a national DNA database.
Gabriel Saucier was taken into custody Wednesday, the day after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He is being held without bail at the El Paso County jail.
The first sexual assault happened Aug. 31, 2015, on the 700 block of West Cucharras Street. The second incident was a case of attempted sexual assault on an at-risk woman that happened Nov. 8, 2015, on the 800 block of South Nevada Avenue.
The two areas are less than two miles apart.
Forensic evidence recovered during the investigations was sent to a laboratory for processing in 2015, Colorado Springs police say, and in July 2016 a Combined DNA Index System match identified Saucier, of Colorado Springs, as a possible match to evidence from the August 2015 case.
Additional forensic evidence was obtained and sent to a laboratory for testing, and this month the evidence revealed a possible link between forensic evidence in both cases.
Anyone with further information on Saucier or the sexual assault cases is asked to call Colorado Springs police at 719-444-7000.
