A wildfire is burning in Clear Creek County south of Idaho Springs.

The sheriff’s office received a report of smoke in the Montane Park area at about 2:17 p.m. Friday, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

About six minutes after the initial call on smoke, calls came in about a wildfire.

Multiple fire departments and agencies are responding including the sheriff’s office, Idaho Springs police, Clear Creek Fire Authority, Clear Creek County Emergency Management Services, Central City Fire Department, Evergreen Fire Rescue, Foothills Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service.

Airplanes dropped water and fire retardants on the fire, which is burning in a thick wooded area on a mountainside.

Acreage burned and the cause of the fire have not yet been determined.
