Colorado State Patrol confirmed that one of the drivers involved in a two-vehicle, head-on crash and car fire Monday at Colo. 52 and Monarch Park Place in Niwot has died.

One of the drivers was transported to an area hospital in “extremely critical” condition and later pronounced dead, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The second driver remains in critical condition.

CSP said both drivers were taken to Boulder Community Health’s Foothills Hospital.

The head-on collision occurred after one of the vehicles “traveling in the opposite direction slowly veered into the other lane,” a Colorado State Patrol official said.
