Usually a downtown Denver winter temperature reading of 71 degrees — Friday’s forecast — would be eye-catching.
But meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Boulder are forecasting eye-popping, record-breaking heat for the weekend.

It could be 81 degrees in Denver on Saturday and Sunday, the NWS says. The last time it was that hot on March 18 and 19 was in 1907, when two heat records were set, according to NWS statistical reports.
Denver’s record on the 18th is 82 degrees and on the 19th is 81.
“Those are some fairly old records. We could tie or break them this weekend,” said Frank Cooper, NWS meteorologist.
It will be partly sunny on Friday with soft sustained southwest winds between 5 and 9 mph are on tap.
On Saturday it will be just plain sunny. The coldest it will get Saturday night will be around 47 degrees, weather forecasters say.
Westerly breezes on Sunday will gust up to 26 mph, the NWS says.
The first part of next week, high temperatures will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Although March is usually the snowiest month of the year, Denver has only had a trace of snow so far this month, Cooper said.
The next chance for rain is on Thursday, he said.
