As an experienced, 22-year teacher in Jefferson County, I am thankful for and appreciative of Dan McMinimee’s accomplishments during his tenure as superintendent. McMinimee’s direct involvement in support of adapted athletics for special-needs students has increased opportunities and participation throughout the school district.
Under his leadership, he made athletic programs for special-needs students a priority. McMinimee’s visible presence at events demonstrated his active interest and commitment. Dedicated to excellence, he was tireless in seeking improved performance through budget provisions for transportation and equipment.
It is unfortunate that the board could not overlook political considerations for a leader of proven positive accomplishments, declining to renew his contract without explanation and limiting his influence to an advisory capacity. Additional expenses related to applicant search and proposed salary increases represent a loss for students and taxpayers. Dan McMinimee will be missed.
