Those and other strategies are being pitched as part of a pilot program that would run this summer, as the city attempts to address vexing challenges of access to the increasingly popular and crowded park.
Under a plan crafted by city staff, with input from citizens and a special working group, those who reach Chautauqua by car would be charged $2.50 per hour for parking along the stretch of Baseline Road nearest the park; on residential blocks between Baseline and Cascade Avenue from Sixth to 11th streets; in the neighborhood west of the park meadow; and in the lot at the park’s main trailhead.
The $2.50-per-hour price would be double the hourly rate for public parking elsewhere in the city.
In the affected neighborhood streets, residents would be exempt from payment, and visitor parking spots would have two-hour time limits. There would be no time limits on Baseline or in the trailhead lot.
