It’s spring and the smell of fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, lettuce and baked goods fills the air. Local and organic food is once again available at the Boulder County Farmers Market.

Despite the 30-degree weather, the markets’ opening day Saturday was a success.

The market is a nonprofit organization operating in Colorado since 1987 with the sole mission of supporting and expanding local agriculture and making fresh products accessible to the community. One of its main goals is to strengthen the relationship between local producers and food consumers.

Many families visit regularly. “We have two little girls and we love to come here and get fresh berries and food and listen to music,” Courtney Pomeroy of Longmont said. “It’s become a weekly tradition for us. It’s a nice place where we can gather and celebrate the people and the awesome things they do.”
