A Loveland woman and her children are recovering from serious injuries they suffered when a stolen car driven on Friday.
Tara Hildebrand is in serious condition at Medical Center of the Rockies, where her 9-year-old daughter remains in fair condition. Her 11-year-old son has been released from the hospital.
“She and her youngest child are hospitalized and will require surgeries,” a friend wrote on a fundraising .
Tara Hildebrand was driving a Subaru in the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Eisenhower Boulevard just before 9 a.m. Friday when a stolen Prius that was racing down Wilson Avenue with law enforcement officers hot on its wheels smashed into her car.
A fugitive identified by police as Adam Keith Fulford, a 33-year-old Loveland man, was the driver of the car, which he is accused of stealing at gunpoint less than an hour earlier from a man driving in the Horsetooth Reservoir area.
Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull Fulford over and continued to chase him when he did not stop because, the night before, he had allegedly shot a taxi driver in the leg while fleeing from authorities, who found guns and homemade explosives in his apartment.
Hildebrand and her children face recovery from serious injuries, associated medical bills and the need to replace the crashed Subaru. A web page has been set up to accept donations to help the Loveland family. Within four hours, donations had reached nearly $3,000 of the $25,000 goal.
“We are asking for help with donations for them to pay for hospital bills, help with a replacement vehicle, and anything else that comes up as they go through the process of recovering from this horrible accident,” the website states. “Those who know this family know how amazing they are. Let’s give them love and support in this incredibly difficult time.”
