In a year in which not much white stuff has fallen from the skies, a spring snow storm will seem like a challenging commute Tuesday.

Big wet snow flakes splatting against windshields and puddles of water getting deeper on roads are slowing down traffic along the Front Range. Winds up to 17 mph are blowing snow sideways at times, making it even tougher to see the road.

With temperatures just south of freezing at around 31 degrees, its just barely cold enough to bring the white stuff but not cold enough to stick to roads.

Up to 2 inches of snow is expected along the urban corridor and up to 3 inches in the western foothills and mountains, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

The high temperature in Denver will be around 37 degrees on Tuesday.

Snow will give way to rain in the afternoon. But it will begin to snow again around 9 p.m., according to the NWS.

It will get cold Tuesday night, with a low of around 22 degrees.

Sunshine is forecast for Wednesday. Temperatures will rebound to around 53 degrees. It will continue to get warmer on Thursday under partly cloudy skies. The high will be around 61 degrees, the weather service says.

It gets downright balmy on Colorado Rockies’ home-opening day Friday with sunny skies and a high of about 71 degrees.

It will be around 71 again on Saturday, the weather service says.

There is a slight chance for rain on Sunday. Denver could get more snow on Sunday night.

High temperatures on Sunday and Monday will be in the mid-to-upper 50s.
