In this Aug. 4, 2016 file photo photo, golden eagle Keesha, who is unable to fly, moves nimbly around his enclosure in the former bear pit area of the Pueblo Zoo in Pueblo, Colo. Keesha — the zoo's longest-term resident — died over the weekend after 36 years at the zoo.

Two long-time residents of the Pueblo Zoo, an otter and an eagle, died last week.

Keesha, the golden eagle, had been with the zoo since 1980 and was the facility’s longest-term resident, the zoo said Monday. Keesha, flightless because of an injury, sired chicks at the zoo who were released into the wild.

Thor, a North American river otter, was one of four zoo otters. Thor resided with multiple generations of and was on a quality-of-life watch list because of his advanced age.

Both animals lived long lives for their species and died of natural causes, the zoo said.

The last year published a story on Keesha, focusing on the bird’s longevity and status as the zoo’s longest resident.

The zoo announced the deaths with a “heavy heart.”
