Dominic Garcia, a KCNC-Channel 4 reporter from 2010-13 who left for a TV job in San Diego, will return to Denver this summer as a KCNC anchor.

Garcia will co-anchor the station’s 5 p.m. newscast with Karen Leigh, and report for the 10 p.m. newscast. He will begin on-air in July.

He is a Denver native with a B.A. in Speech Communications from Colorado State University. He went to Thomas Jefferson High School, and got his start as an intern at Channel 4 while attending CSU. His wife Meghan, a physician, accepted a position at National Jewish, prompting their return.

Not least, Garcia ranked No. 12 on the list.

KCNC News Director Tim Wieland said he knows of no other intern-to-anchor story at the station. “We put a premium on having people work here who have deep connections to Colorado,” he said. (Wieland himself was an intern at Channel 4 while at CU.)

Wieland also announced that lead anchor Jim Benemann has signed a new contract to continue his role at 6, 6:30 and 10 p.m.
