The Pentagon says U.S. forces in Afghanistan dropped the military's largest non-nuclear bomb on an Islamic State target in Afghanistan. A Pentagon spokesman said it was the first-ever combat use of the bomb, known as the GBU-43, which he said contains 11 tons of explosives. The Air Force calls it the Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb. Based on the acronym, it has been nicknamed the "Mother Of All Bombs."

Re: April 13 news story.

I’m sitting in my comfortable house boiling eggs for my grandsons to dye pretty colors and helping to file our taxes. I look at the paper and my heart sinks. They dropped what they call the “mother of all bombs,” but I, a mother, would never think to kill others on a morning like this. I wish my grandsons never to have to experience such a thing, or do it to others.

My taxes are paying for this desecration of life — humans, animals, homes, plants, the Earth itself. I protest! My money should be going for life, not death.

The U.S. has been funding many building projects in Afghanistan, rebuilding society and trust, turning people from violence. Now that is undone. Violence escalates conflict, as we know in our own lives.

Sens. Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner, President Trump, stop funding the wars! Feed the starving in Yemen, Iraq, Syria with my taxes. We can never kill our way to peace.

Judy Danielson, Denver

There must be something about the walls of the White House and the military academies that distort the brain and prevent different thought patterns. For over 50 years, our presidents and military leaders have been doing the same old things and expecting different results.

The dropping of the MOAB in Afghanistan is a futile iteration of the B-52s bombing of the Cu Chi tunnel complex in Vietnam.

Instead of changing failed strategies, our leaders change excuses.

It’s time we quit looking at other cultures and seeing ourselves. It’s time we tried something different.

Gary Hall, Denver

The Denver Post needs to print a retraction. The United States dropped the largest bomb on the world in last November’s election. The one dropped Thursday on Afghanistan was minuscule in comparison.
