School officials have closed Westminster High School following a small fire in a computer lab Wednesday night, authorities say.

Although the fire was small and quickly contained, the school was closed for safety reasons and because a strong smoke smell remains, according to a news release by Jeremiah Overcash, spokesman for the Westminster Fire Department.

The fire broke out around 8:50 p.m. as activities were underway in adjacent school buildings, the news release says. Smoke funneled into the hallways.

Westminster police and firefighters evacuated the auditorium and other school buildings.

No one was injured.
