A phone scammer claiming to be a Colorado Department of Transportation representative has asked people for personal information and threatened them when they don’t comply.
Multiple community members have contacted CDOT, saying the caller claimed he was conducting a survey, asking for date of births, driver’s license numbers and addresses, according to a statement from the agency. When people refuse to give information, the caller has threatened them with deportation.
CDOT cautions the public against giving information, saying they would never ask for it nor threaten deportation.
If you receive a call, CDOT advises you to ask for the individual’s name and phone number. Then immediately hang up and report the information to the real CDOT, which can be reached at 303-757-9011.
