I am elated by Jennifer Brown’s article that publicized to generate support for those who work on child abuse or neglect cases throughout Colorado. As a pediatric nurse, I have cared for several victims of tragic and horrifying abuse and neglect. The trauma these children have endured is emotionally crumbling and haunting for those caring for them as well as for the children. The caseworkers managing these cases are exposed to the details most of us never hear; yet as nurses, we are provided with many avenues of support, resiliency and therapy. We must also protect the hearts and spirits of pediatric caseworkers, because they have one of the most challenging and important jobs: saving and protecting children from harm.
