An explosion and fire at a Loveland hotel, which injured two people and a firefighter, was caused by a natural gas leak, authorities said Monday.

“The gas was accidentally ignited when a resident lit a cigarette,” according to the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority.

The , 660 E. Eisenhower Blvd., has displaced 10 residents. Units in the building sustained heavy damage and have been deemed uninhabitable until repairs are made.

One resident was taken to a local hospital with serous injuries. Another resident was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries when a portion of a ceiling collapsed. The injured firefighter was treated on the scene.
