REI is laying claim to another .

The specialty outdoor retailer will move its Arapahoe County store, currently near Park Meadows and Ikea at 9637 E. County Line Road, to 9000 E. Peakview Ave. in Greenwood Village this fall, officials announced Monday.

The vacant 45,000-square-foot property, which is visible from Interstate 25, was last year as the now-defunct retailer .

The move will allow REI to expand its footprint by about 20,000 square feet, according to a company spokesman. The current location —  which has an Englewood mailing address — opened in 1998.

“Thatap a big reason for the move,” REI spokesman Mike Ferris said. “We’ve heard from members and customers for years that they want a bigger store with larger assortments.”

The Greenwood Village property is the second former Sports Authority in Colorado that REI has taken over.  in the former Dillon Sports Authority, near U.S. 6 and Dillon Dam Road.

“The REI Englewood team is very excited to continue to serve our members and customers in the southern Denver metro communities at our new Greenwood Village store this fall,” store manager Kris Reale said in a statement. “To be able to support this outdoor community in a larger space just a couple miles from our current location will help all of us to inspire each other to get outside.”
