Getting your player ready...

If you forgot to pick something up for Mom today, LIV Sotheby’s agent Diane Huttner has a gift idea thatap functional, elegant and won’t cost you a million dollars, either. Best yet, you can show Mom after brunch today, 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., to gain her approval and likely her warm affection.

Unit 1401 at 1900 E. Girard Place, Englewood, was one of two 14th-story penthouses created in 1982 as part of The Waterford condominium off Hampden Avenue a little west of Wellshire Golf Course, a few blocks north of Cherry Hills Country Club. The westernmost penthouse, it had views that wrapped three sides of its 3,420-square-foot expanse — Pikes Peak from a master suite on the south; Longs Peak and downtown’s skyline from a second full master on the north. That caught the eye of Jerry Goldstein, CEO of Denver’s own Scottap Liquid Gold, who made this home in 1999.

The views are better now than they would have been then, back when Denver had a “brown cloud.” Despite the median condo price climbing 12.5 percent over the past year, the metro area still isn’t seeing much condo construction, and this one remains the only one of its height within a mile. The Goldsteins decked spaces between the floor-to-ceiling windows with over-the-top finishes that the current sellers preserved, including a wet bar in leaded glass; a chinoiseries glass closet; California walk-in closets and lavish baths in both masters; and a wood-burner fireplace with a marble face thatap mechanically ventilated.  Bedroom count is three-plus-a-study, and the kitchen is updated in granite.

The price is $775,000, including four of The Waterford’s indoor parking spaces, along with 24-hour concierge service, 7.5 acres of landscaped grounds, a set-apart clubhouse with steam rooms, racquetball, tennis, fitness center, spa and a pool. Huttner and an associate (who will escort you up from the lobby) will have homemade banana cake out, 2-to-4 today. From S. University at Hampden with its new King Soopers and gelato/dining spots, head west on Hampden two blocks to Girard Place and turn right.
