Two men die — one from Utah — in head-on crash near Rifle

Two men were killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle, head-on crash near the Western Slope town of Rifle.

The wreck happened at about 4:15 p.m. on Colorado 13 and involved a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer.

The Garfield County Coroner’s Office says a 79-year-old Colorado man and a 59-year-old Utah man died.

“Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday,” Coroner Robert Glassmire said in a news release. “The cause of deaths are under investigation and the manner of deaths for both fatalities are being investigated as an accident.”

The names of the men will be released once their families are notified.

Further details in the crash were not immediately released.
