Police will operate DUI checkpoints during the holiday weekend at various locations in Denver.

Officers also will operate impaired driving saturation patrols, police announced Thursday.

“With the many transportation options in and around town, there is no excuse to drive while being under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” said Police Chief Robert C. White. “Please plan ahead and make it a safe weekend for everyone.”

During the Memorial Day weekend of 2016, 46 drivers were arrested in Denver for driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday morning it also would be conducting a DUI checkpoint in the area of South Kipling Parkway and West Bowles Avenue. The Lakewood Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint in the Belmar shopping area.

Both checkpoints will begin about 7 p.m. Saturday in conjunction with “The Heat Is On” DUI checkpoints across the state.
