Longmont police investigate six early morning arson cases

Longmont police are investigating a string of fires that torched five vehicles and a trash bin early Monday morning, said Cmdr. Joel Post.

Police first were called at 1:50 a.m. about a trash bin with burning cardboard inside in an alley off the 400 block of Main Street. Officers got a call about the first vehicle fire at 2:35 a.m. The fire destroyed a car in the 400 block of Sixth Avenue and also burned a nearby fence and house eaves.

At 3:18 a.m., police received three reports of vehicles on fire in the 100 block of Longs Peak Avenue. At 3:30 a.m., the sixth fire was reported of a vehicle in the 700 block of Baker Street.
