A competency evaluation for Broomfield murder suspect Emanuel Doll was ordered Thursday morning by 17th Judicial District Judge Mark Warner.

He also ordered that a preliminary hearing originally set for July 14 be vacated.
Doll is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the death of 4-year-old Jace Emanuel Higginbotham, also of Broomfield.
A review of the competency evaluation is set for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 7 in Broomfield Combined Courts.
The judge’s ruling came after defense attorneys filed a motion under seal on June 23. John Gifford and Kathryn Herold of the public defender’s office have represented Doll since his initial court appearances.
District Attorney Dave Young of the 17th Judicial District, and Trevor Moritzky, chief trial deputy, will prosecute for the state.
