Tuesday’s high temperature could hit triple figures, forecasters say.

If everything goes as expected, the high temperature will only hit 97 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Afternoon and evening rain and thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m. in Denver, the weather service says. Winds could gust up to 50 mph.

“It will be very warm today with highs in the mid- to upper 90s across the urban corridor and eastern plains. Scattered thunderstorms are expected over the higher terrain with isolated storms across the lower elevations,” the weather service says.

It will be hot again on Wednesday, with a high of about 95 degrees. The chance for rain and thunderstorms improves on Wednesday, forecasters say.

But the best opportunity for afternoon and evening showers this week arrives Thursday when the chance for precipitation is 40 percent in the evening, the weather service says.

Rain and thunderstorms will continue to be possible Friday through Monday, the weather service says.

High temperatures will fade late in the week with highs of 89 on Friday, 85 on Saturday and 80 on Sunday.
