President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner said before testifying behind closed doors in the Senate that he did not collude with the Russians and does not know anyone in the Trump campaign who did. That misses the point.
What is clear from the email exchange from Donald Trump Jr. is that the Trump surrogates attended a meeting with a Russian lawyer with the expectation of receiving negative information about Hillary Clinton to help Trump win the election. The failure of the Trump surrogates to get what they wanted does not make this a “nothing burger,” as many of the Trump team have claimed.
The intent to collude is plain for all to see. The Trump representatives sought out Russian help to win the election. Just because the Trump team didn’t get the secret sauce they were looking for does not make this a “nothing burger.” Collusion or not, it’s despicable.
