Expect cloudy skies with hot and muggy conditions Tuesday along the Front Range before thunderstorms arrive in the afternoon, the weather service says.

After 3 p.m. there’s a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms. The high temperatures will be about 92 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible in the Denver metro area.

“Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop over the mountains this morning and then spread over the plains this afternoon. Expect heavy rain and gusty winds with the storms,” the weather service says.

There is a slight chance for severe storms over the far plains with damaging winds up to 60 mph and hail up to one inch in diameter.

It won’t be as hot on Wednesday, forecasters say. The high will reach 82 degrees. But the 30 percent chance for afternoon rain and thunderstorms continues.

Thursday’s forecast calls for 30 percent chance for rain and thunderstorms after 9 a.m. Thunder strikes also are possible, the weather service says. The high temperature will be around 81 degrees.

The weather service predicts highs around 87 degrees Friday through Monday with chances for afternoon rain and thunderstorms on Friday and rain late Saturday. It will be mostly sunny on Sunday and Monday.
