Lakewood police ID man who shot his roommate and called police to report his own crime

Lakewood police identified 23-year-old John Martinez as the Zebulun Bacon and then called police to report what he had done.

When Martinez called the police shortly after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, he said the shooting was an accident. He met police in front of the residence on South Cole Street north of West Jewell Avenue and was taken into custody. He is booked into the Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Bacon was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Lakewood police.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances and ask anyone with information to call 303-987-7111.
