The official new slogan of the Democratic Party, “A Better Deal,” has left me and millions of other progressives underwhelmed. It just kind of sits there like a plate of cold scrambled eggs. Itap a nice homage to FDR’s New Deal, but do party leaders really want to be associated with a retro-1930s phenomenon? Also, I find the use of the word “deal” a little creepy, given President Donald Trump’s “Art of the Deal.”
The Democratic Party needs new leadership, someone not representing East or West Coast liberalism, someone not named Chuck Schumer or Nancy Pelosi.
As far as a viable candidate for president in 2020, how about John Hickenlooper? Think about it. He has progressive credentials, he’s adept at building consensus, he has a reasonable attitude toward energy development, and he personifies the Western entrepreneurial ethic.
