GREELEY — Weld County commissioners on Monday voted to move closer to disbanding a county oversight board, instructing county attorneys to draft ballot language .
The vote was tight, with three commissioners voting to move forward and two voting “no,” and it came after a dozen residents used the public comment portion of the commissioners’ Monday meeting to state their case.
Just two of those residents, including former commissioner Bill Jerke, spoke in favor of disbanding the council. The rest urged commissioners not to take such a step, citing, among other things, the potential for bad optics given the council’s soon-to-be-released audit into the performance of county commissioners.
Commissioner Chairwoman Julie Cozad joined commissioner Sean Conway in voting “no,” with both saying they agreed with residents’ concerns about perception, and saying the board was moving too quickly.
