On June 28 at about 3:30 p.m. officers were called to 9726 Nucla St. on a report of an accidental discharge of a firearm. Paramedics took the boy to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora where he was treated for the gunshot wound to the arm
According to court documents, Orr cleaned and loaded the gun before placing it on the kitchen table. He then sat down at the table and began working on the computer. His son later came to the table and Orr heard the gun discharge and realized his son was shot in the arm.
Orr said that he normally stores the guns on top of the refrigerator or on top of the entertainment center.
Dave Young, 17th Judicial District Attorney, announced Thursday that child abuse charges have been filed against Orr, 22, for the accidental shooting. Orr also was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon for possessing a sawed off shotgun. When officers arrived, Orr told them he owned three other guns including a sawed off shotgun. A .22 rifle also in the home belonged to his mother.
The shotgun was confiscated but the other firearms were deemed legal and remain in Orr’s possession.
Orr was arrested Tuesday and is free on a $10,000 bond. His next court appearance is 8:30 a.m. Sept. 29 in Adams County Court.
