Phil Hufstader, a youth soccer coach in Boulder, resigned his position last month after his club reported allegations he engaged in “inappropriate and illegal conduct” to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Hufstader, a former professional soccer player, is being investigated by the sheriff’s office, spokeswoman Carrie Haverfield confirmed Friday. There were no details released about the “inappropriate and illegal conduct.”
“We are doing a criminal investigation,” Haverfield said. “We are still in the preliminary stage of the investigation.”
On Thursday, Adam Hayes, executive director of the FC Boulder soccer club, sent an email to players’ parents saying he became aware of the allegations against Hufstader on Aug. 20 and reported them to the sheriff’s office and suspended Hufstader.
Hufstader could not be reached for comment Friday.
