Kitchen knife culprit. Arvada officers were dispatched to Target, 5071 Kipling St., Aug. 28 where a loss prevention officer was detaining a woman on suspicion of attempted theft. While waiting for police officers to arrive, the woman pulled a large kitchen knife out of her purse and pointed it at the store employee, a police report said. Fearful, the employee told the woman to leave. Wheat Ridge officers later found her.
Bad breakup. A woman living in the 9900 block of West 59th Avenue, Arvada, called police Aug. 25 and reported that her ex-boyfriend was destroying her apartment. The pair recently broke up but were still living together, the woman told police. When the woman received a text message from another man, the ex-boyfriend became upset and began grabbing his clothes from the closet and ripping posters off the wall, a police report said. The man allegedly damaged the woman’s phone and admitted to getting in her face and calling her names. Police arrested him for domestic violence harassment.
Suspicious smells. Arvada firefighters responded to the 4400 block of Simms Street, Wheat Ridge, Aug. 31 after residents reported a strange odor and difficulty breathing. The Jeffco/Adams County hazmat team announced evacuation/shelter orders throughout the area, and nearby streets were shut down. Authorities were unable to identify the source of the odor. After the all clear was given, the area was reopened.
Confident counterfeiter. A woman tried to pass off three counterfeit $100 bills at a TA Truck Stop, 12151 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, police reported. When police arrived, she provided alibis that couldn’t be verified. During a search of her personal property, police found approximately $1,600 in $100 and $50 uncut counterfeit bills, according to a police report.
