Smoking could be banned on Denver’s 16th Street Mall. Smoker Raymond Minton smokes along Tremont Place at the 16th Street Mall on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014. Minton works on the mall. He said about the possible ban, ” It sounds like Boulder. To totally ban it, that’s harsh. They’re making us second class citizens. We’re in the alleys.”

Re: “” Sept. 13 news story.

I support the smoking ban on 16th Street Mall in Denver.

I grew up with two parents that smoked two packs a day and I never realized how bad our house smelled, and irritating the smoke was, until I came back from my first semester of college. I have been in Colorado for almost 20 years. In years past, I would seldom visit bars and casinos because the smoke was overpowering.

Last weekend, while walking down the 16th Street Mall on a Friday night, I caught more than a few whiffs of pot smoke. But, it was the cigarette smoke that really got to me while waiting to cross the streets. This is not a “not in my backyard” situation. The 16th Street Mall is a shared space. As such, it is not too much for ask for a basic level of air quality and social behavior while using it.
