The 7,800-acre Winter Valley Fire in Moffat County was 100 percent contained Tuesday as visible smoke from interior islands of fire showed minimal creeping behavior, according to the Bureau of Land Management.

Cool temperatures and intermittent rain showers starting Friday have continued in the area, slowing the fire’s growth. BLM and Moffat County still have a small staff monitoring the fire.

The fire started Thursday around noon, . Wind, at times blowing up to 50 miles per hour, contributed to the fire’s growth. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to BLM.
