Climber falls to his death in Rocky Mountain National Park

The 66-year-old climber died Saturday and his body was recovered by helicopter Sunday

A Colorado man fell to his death while climbing Saturday in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Henry Gholz, a 66-year-old from Fort Collins, fell approximately 50 feet while climbing the technical Batman and Robin route on the Batman Pinnacle. The rock is in the park’s Lumpy Ridge area, north of Estes Park.

Kyle Patterson, a park spokesman, said bystanders performed CPR on Gholz until rangers arrived. Rangers then tried to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was recovered by a helicopter at 8:45 a.m. Sunday and taken to the Larimer County coroner’s office. The investigation is ongoing.

In 2013, a 22-year-old Fort Collins man also  the Batman Pinnacle.
