A 52-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon from injuries suffered when he crashed into the rear of an RTD bus in Aurora.

The crash happened at about 2 p.m. in a southbound lane of Havana Street just north of East Alameda Avenue, said officer Kevin Deichsel, a police traffic division spokesman.

The bus was pulling away from a bus stop, merging into traffic, when a Chevrolet four-door rear-ended the bus.

The driver of the car was extricated by Aurora firefighters and taken to Aurora South Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver, who was alone in the car, was not identified pending notification of family. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The driver of the Route 105 bus suffered back pains and was taken to Aurora South, RTD spokesman Nate Currey said. There was one passenger on the bus, she was not injured.
