Man who ran into children in Colorado Springs school crosswalk not guilty of child abuse

Jurors convicted Douglas Clubb of several traffic offenses

A man who ran his vehicle into four children in a crosswalk near a Colorado Springs elementary school has been found not guilty of four counts of felony child abuse.

But jurors on Wednesday in connection with a Jan. 12 collision in which he struck four children in a crosswalk near James Monroe Elementary. The children have since made a full recovery.

On Friday, Colorado Springs police Detective Jeffrey Rymer testified that Clubb ran into the children as a result of an unfortunate miscommunication. He said that a school crossing guard motioned in Clubb’s direction and he thought she was waving him on.

Clubb smiled and waved at the crossing guard as he made his turn, hitting four young children just as they stepped into the road.
