A Denver man was killed overnight in a rollover crash on U.S. 6 through Clear Creek Canyon east of Idaho Springs, the Colorado State Patrol said Sunday morning.
The 52-year-old man was ejected from his sport-utility vehicle after the SUV went off the road and landed upside down in the creek, Trooper Roy Cherry said. The single-vehicle crash was reported about 11:50 p.m. Saturday near Mile Marker 259.
Hwy 6 is closed between 119 and Hwy 40 (I-70) for a fatal crash. Please use alternate routes. Will advise on opening.

U.S. 6 was closed between Interstate 70 to the west and Colorado 119 for more than four hours, according to tweets from the Colorado Department of Transportation. U.S. 6 reopened at 4:30 a.m.
The crash occurred at Tunnel 6 on the highway, CDOT said.
“Basically, (the SUV) went off the road, rolled and came to a rest on its roof in the creek,” Cherry said. “The driver was ejected.”
Authorities still were working to notify the driver’s next-of-kin, Cherry said. For that reason, he declined to identify the victim or release more information about the vehicle.
