The family of a man who plummeted to his death from fire-escape stairs at Sports Authority Field at Mile High after a Denver Broncos game has sued the stadium district and other entities, .
was filed in Denver District Court on Tuesday, the one-year anniversary of 36-year-old Jason Coy’s death, on behalf of his widow, Leslie, and her five children by Windsor attorney James Bramer.
The fire escape does not have uniform railings and steps, the lawsuit says, and presented an “unreasonable risk of injury to patrons.”
The lawsuit was filed against the Metropolitan Football Stadium District, Stadium Management Company and a half dozen other defendants. It seeks compensation for Coy’s lost wages and the pain and suffering of his family.
Stadium district officials could not be reached for comment on Thursday. The Broncos declined to comment.
On Oct. 24, 2016, Coy, 36, of Milliken, was sitting on a railing around 9:45 p.m. when he lost his balance and falling 60 feet to the floor below, the lawsuit says.
Coy suffered blunt-force injuries, including numerous fractures to his head, skull, neck and torso. He died the following day.
At the time of his death, Coy’s five children ranged in age from 6 months to 11 years old.
