18-year-old killed in Colorado Springs hit-and-run identified

Police haven’t arrested the driver

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified an 18-year-old boy killed in a early Sunday.

Zachary S. Schlagel of Windsor was the victim in the accident on Austin Bluffs Parkway at Stanton Road at 12:33 a.m.

Schlagel died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries suffered during the crash.

Schlagel and two others were crossing the eastbound lanes of Austin Bluffs Parkway at Stanton Road when a truck driving east on Austin Bluffs Parkway struck two of them.

The second pedestrian suffered only minor injuries.

Police have found the light-colored, full-size truck, and identified the driver. He has not yet turned himself in or been arrested, Lt. Howard Black, police spokesman said.
