Anyone travelling in Colorado’s high country on Sunday should be prepared for heavy snow and tough travel conditions.
A winter storm warning is in effect with heavy snow falling mainly north of the Interstate 70 corridor until 5 a.m. on Monday. Accumulations of 4- to 7-inches are expected in Rabbit Ears Pass, Rocky Mountain National Park, the Medicine Bow Range and elsewhere, said Russell Danielson, National Weather Service meteorologist.
Some areas could see 12 inches.
Snow and blowing snow are expected to reduce visibility over mountain passes including Vail and Monarch, with total accumulations of up to 8 inches in areas above 8,500 feet and up to a foot above 10,000 feet.
The Denver metro area will have partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 50 degrees Sunday.
The metro area temperature will drop to 31 degrees on Sunday night when it will be partly cloudy.
The metro area will have patchy and freezing fog on Monday before it becomes partly cloudy.

Wintry weather will also likely spread onto the plains Monday night and continue into Tuesday with much colder temperatures and snow.
Light to moderate snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible on the plains including the I-25 urban corridor, Danielson said.
