A man who fell through ice on the Upper Hoffman Lake about 3:30 p.m.. Friday was helped out of the water by a resident of Silver Leaf Drive who… tossed him a rope.
The man who threw the rope called Loveland Fire Rescue Authority personnel after he saw a man in distress on the ice, said LFRA engineer Matt DeDecker.
By the time a LFRA crew arrived to the 1800 block of Silver Leaf Drive, the man who had fallen through the ice had been pulled from the water with no apparent injuries. Still, an ambulance transported the man to a hospital because he was so cold, DeDecker said.
The man was about 50 feet from the lake’s shore when he fell through the ice.
DeDecker said it is unknown what the man was doing on the ice before he fell into the water. Firefighters retrieved the man’s cellphone and jacket, which were both still on the ice after the man was pulled to shore. No other information about the man who fell through the ice was available.
The water in that part of the lake is about waist-deep, DeDecker said, and the man who fell in was able to walk to shore with the assistance of the rope thrown by the man who witnessed the incident.
