Three South Metro Fire Rescue firefighters were injured Saturday evening in a collision and were transported to a hospital along with three other people involved in the wreck.

One firefighter sustained serious injuries, and two others were taken to the hospital as a precaution, the fire department posted on its Twitter account. An adult in the other vehicle also sustained serious injuries. A second adult and a child in that vehicle also were transported.

The fire department reported the accident on Twitter shortly after 4:30 p.m.

A fire engine collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Piccadilly Street and East Berry Avenue in Centennial. The fire engine was not responding to a call so the lights and sirens were not operating, the fire department said.

East Berry Avenue and and East Berry Drive were closed at Piccadilly Street for several hours, the fire department reported. The streets reopened around 7 p.m.
