There’s a strong chance for rain in the Denver metro area beginning in the late afternoon Wednesday while the mountains could get up to 14 inches of snow.
A powerful storm system moving into the state from the desert southwest is expected to drop up to 14 inches in the northern mountains near Rabbit Ears Pass, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
Between 3 and 6 inches of snow is expected to fall by late Wednesday night in the central mountains.

Rain showers are likely in the Denver metro area beginning mostly after 3 p.m. The high temperature will be around 56 degrees. It will be breezy with wind gusts up to 26 mph.
Snow could begin falling in Denver Wednesday night and continuing into early Thursday, the weather service says.
It will be mostly sunny Thursday and Friday with high temperatures of about 40 and 49 degrees respectively. The highs will be in the mid 40s through the weekend.
There is a chance for snow on Monday, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
