Kerri Ertman of Loveland works on a snow sculpture during the Colorado State Snow Sculpting Competition on Dec. 16 in Berthoud. Ertman is traveling to Lake Geneva, Wis., with Steve Mercia and Randy Amys to compete in the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition from Wednesday to Saturday.
Starting Wednesday, three Colorado snow-sculpting teams will compete in the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition in Lake Geneva, Wis.
“Historically Colorado has only had one team represented at nationals. This is the first year we have had two, let alone three,” said Kerri Ertman, member of Team Colorado 3 and co-organizer of the Colorado State Snow Sculpting Competition that takes place in December during Berthoud Snowfest.
Officially, Colorado will be represented by the High Plains Carvers, the Colorado Springs team that won the Colorado State Snow Sculpting Competition. The team includes Tracy DuCharme and her two sons, March and Russell Gotthoffer.
The two Loveland teams are Garett Dreiling and Steven Carmer, Colorado Team 2; and Steve Mercia, Kerri Ertman and Randy Amys, Colorado Team 3. Mercia is co-organizer of the Colorado competition
“There are only 15 teams, and we are three, so we are a fifth of the competition,” Ertman said.
