Boulder’s City Council on Tuesday night unanimously approved a $152,000 settlement with Maxwell Brandel, who was injured in a crash 18 months ago with a vehicle driven by a city employee.
The crash occurred on July 4, 2016, according to the settlement agreement, and took place at the intersection of Foothills Parkway and Arapahoe Avenue.
The driver of the city vehicle was DeShaun Becerril, a utilities worker.
In a memo to the council ahead of the meeting, city staff wrote that Brandel sued the city seeking “compensation for bodily injury and emotional distress damages arising out of” the crash.
Brandel, reached by phone Tuesday, declined to comment on the incident and the ensuing legal case.
The City Council did not discuss the settlement before approving it, but a memo from city staff explained given the costs of litigation the city was unlikely to be able to save money by pursuing the lawsuit.
