The Commerce City Police Department took a man into custody Friday afternoon after a barricaded standoff that prompted a nearby elementary school to go into lockout.

Commerce City police officers responded to a well-being check near the 11200 block of River Run Parkway just after 11:15 a.m., the department wrote in a news release.

“When officers approached the house, one shot was fired,” the release read.

Julia Virnstein, Commerce City Police spokeswoman, said she was unable to confirm whether the barricaded man or police fired the shot. Police said no injuries have been reported.

Just before 1 p.m., Virnstein said police were taking the man into custody.

J.W. Thimming Elementary School was placed on lockout, and a reverse 911 was sent out to nearby residents asking them to stay inside.

There is no further information available at this time.
