
A truck crashed into the Regional Transportation District’s 16th Street FreeRide bus in downtown Denver on Tuesday after being chased by Commerce City police, agency officials said.
The crash happened near 16th and Champa streets when a driver in a pickup truck hit the bus, according to Denver and Commerce City police and RTD officials.
had tried to pull over the vehicle in Commerce City after seeing a person suspected in a shooting in the passenger seat.
Officers chased the truck into Denver but stopped the pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle, Commerce City officials said in a post on social media.
The truck driver “later” crashed into the bus, but Commerce City police did not say how soon before the crash police called off the chase.
The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital, officials said. No one on the bus was injured.
FreeRide service was rerouted onto 15th and 17th streets after the crash, RTD spokesperson Marta Sipeki said.
